SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 69 new locally transmitted COVID-19 infections on Monday (Aug 9), including 20 with no links to previous cases.
Thirty-nine infections linked to previous cases were already in quarantine, and the remaining 10 were detected through surveillance testing, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).
Among the new COVID-19 cases are two seniors above 70 years old who were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and at risk of serious illness, said the ministry.
There were also three new imported cases, who had been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival. One was detected upon arrival in Singapore while two cases developed the illness during their stay-home notice or isolation.
In total, Singapore reported 72 new COVID-19 cases on Monday.
MANDATORY TESTING FOR CONSTRUCTION SITES
COVID-19 antigen rapid tests will be made mandatory for the construction industry, including all non-dormitory workers as well as visitors to construction worksites, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) announced over the weekend.
A COVID-19 case was recently detected at one of the pilot sites, which allowed the worker to be quickly isolated without compromising the safety of the workplace, BCA said.
The mandatory testing will be implemented from Aug 20 for construction sites with a project value of more than S$3 million and at construction supply works premises.
For small construction sites with a project value of S$3 million or less and construction account workers outside of construction sites, the testing will be implemented by Sep 3.
As of Monday, Singapore has reported a total of 65,836 COVID-19 cases and 42 fatalities from the disease.
