SINGAPORE: A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a gemstone and a luxury watch valued at a total of S$6.2 million (US$4.5 million) from a residential unit along Cairnhill Circle, which is near Orchard Road, the police said on Thursday (Jul 4).
The police said they were alerted to the incident at about 9pm on Tuesday. The suspect was subsequently identified and arrested within a day.
The man is also suspected of stealing a handbag, a pair of sandals and a pair of sneakers valued at a total of S$46,200 from the same residential unit, according to preliminary investigations.
The stolen items have been recovered, the police added.
He will be charged in court on Friday with theft in dwelling. If found guilty, he faces up to seven years' jail and a fine.
