SINGAPORE: Singtel landline users, including KK Women's and Children's Hospital, banks and a range of businesses, reported a service outage on Tuesday (Oct 8).
The disruption also affected the 995 and 999 emergency lines.
"SCDF and SPF are aware that the public are experiencing difficulties calling 995 and 999. We are working closely with our service provider to resolve this matter as quickly as possible," said the Singapore Civil Defence Force on Facebook.
"The safety and well-being of the public is our top priority. We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.
"Members of the public who are experiencing difficulties reaching us at 995 or 999 can SMS SCDF at 70995 or SPF at 70999 instead."
In a Facebook post at about 3.30pm, Singtel said some of its customers "may be experiencing intermittent fixed voice service issue".
"Our mobile services are unaffected. Our engineers are working urgently to resolve the matter. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience."
Those hit by the service disruption included DBS and UOB.
"We have been informed by our telco provider that they are facing technical issues that are impacting our customer care hotlines. We are working closely with them to resolve this industry-wide issue as soon as possible," DBS said on Facebook.
UOB said in a separate statement that its customers may be experiencing intermittent connection issues to its customer contact hotline due to a "telco service disruption".
At around 3.50pm, over 2,700 reports relating to Singtel had been filed on outage tracking website Downdetector.
In a Facebook post around 3pm, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital said that their phone lines were down due to a “technical fault”.
Another post by community organisation Our Tanjong Pagar stated that its phone lines were “temporarily down due to a Singtel service outage in the East and Central regions of Singapore”.
Other affected organisations posted about their disrupted phone services between 3.30pm and 3.50pm. They included Healthmark Clinics and Jireh Veterinary Clinic.
"Please have this fixed asap," said one commenter on Singtel's Facebook post.
"We are running business and all payment terminals not working," wrote user Wilfred Chong.
