SINGAPORE: Leong Mun Wai has stepped down as secretary-general of the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) to take responsibility for a recent POFMA order over false claims he made about the lack of financial aid for West Coast residents.

"To take responsibility for the POFMA Correction Direction he received on Feb 15, 2024, Mr Leong Mun Wai decided to step down as PSP’s Secretary-General on Feb 20, 2024," the party said in a statement on Friday (Feb 23).

Mr Leong, a Non-Constituency Member of Parliament, was elected as PSP chief in April 2023.

Ms Hazel Poa takes over as PSP's new secretary-general, having been elected to the post on Feb 20.

PSP said it is "proud that he (Mr Leong) has demonstrated accountability through his actions, not just words".

"The Progress Singapore Party will continue working to build a more progressive, compassionate and inclusive Singapore," it added.
