SINGAPORE: An 88-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (Jun 5) for the murder of a 74-year-old woman in a Petir Road flat, in Bukit Panjang.
The police said they were called to the scene at about 1am on Wednesday.
Officers found the elderly woman lying motionless and she was pronounced dead by paramedics.
The suspect was arrested at the scene.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that both parties are known to each other," the police added.
Mandarin news portal 8world reported that the incident occurred at Block 137 Petir Road, although the police did not reveal the exact location. According to the report, police had set up a cordon at the unit involved.
The man will be charged in court on Thursday.
The offence of murder carries the death penalty.
