SINGAPORE: A man has been arrested for allegedly receiving marine gas oil (MGO) stolen from Shell Eastern Petroleum's Pulau Bukom facility, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said on Wednesday (Apr 19).

The 48-year-old, who was not in Singapore during the investigation into his alleged offences, was arrested when he entered the country on Tuesday.

"In January 2018, the Criminal Investigation Department conducted investigations against multiple incidents where MGO was stolen from Shell Pulau Bukom and sold to bunkering companies at a heavily discounted rate," SPF said in a news release.

"The man was the captain of a vessel owned by Prime Shipping Corporation when it allegedly received stolen MGO valued at more than US$830,000 (S$1.1 million) on two occasions between March and April 2017."

The man will be charged on Thursday with two counts of abetment of dishonestly receiving stolen property.

Those convicted of the offence face up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.
