SINGAPORE: A 58-year-old man will be charged in court on Wednesday (Mar 13) with two counts of cheating for allegedly deceiving Tampines Town Council into overpaying for water pump replacements.
The man was a director of the then-term contractor engaged by the town council for pump maintenance works for the estate between April 2016 to July 2017, the police said on Tuesday.
According to the police, the man allegedly submitted 203 invoices to bill the town council more than S$380,000 (US$ 285,456) during this period.
The invoices were for the installation of multi-stage water pumps when significantly cheaper, single-stage water pumps were installed instead, they said.
If convicted of cheating, the man could be face up to 10 years' jail and a fine.
