SINGAPORE: The tank collision with a traffic light at a National Day Parade 2025 national education show was due to an "isolated component" that led to the loss of steering and braking power, according to preliminary investigation findings.
More detailed reviews on the tank will be done "out of an abundance of caution", Colonel David Kwek, the chairman of the Ministry of Defence's (MINDEF) outreach and heartlands celebration group, said on Tuesday (Jul 8).
On Saturday, the tank "experienced a technical issue" that caused it to come into contact with a traffic light along North Bridge Road, said MINDEF then.
Footage of the incident was shared online by Facebook page SGRV. In the video, the tank is seen making a right turn near Parliament House when it collides with a traffic light.
It is then seen reversing and pausing before completing the turn, and the traffic light was left slightly askew.
The traffic light was repaired by 4am on Sunday, the Land Transport Authority said on Monday.
"The safety and well-being of the public and our crews are of paramount importance," COL Kwek said.
He added that the tank, which leads the line-up of the mobile column segment, will resume its participation in NDP 2025 activities after all the necessary safety checks and clearances are completed.
