SINGAPORE: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) on Wednesday (Feb 21) said it has yet to admit a new club into the Singapore Premier League (SPL).

In response to queries from CNA, a FAS spokesperson said it was aware that there is “speculation” regarding the admission of a club into the SPL.

“The FAS can confirm that it has yet to complete this exercise and will confirm changes to the clubs participating in the SPL only when this exercise is completed,” added the spokesperson.

This comes days after social media posts by Tengah Football Club which said that it had received “in-principle approval” to compete in the next season of the SPL.

“We're thrilled to announce that Tengah FC is gearing up for an incredible season ahead!” the club said.

“Get ready to witness our team's passion, dedication, and skill as we take on some of the best teams in the league!”

“These prerequisites, which forms the basis of due diligence include – but are not limited to – the ability to meet the Asian Football Confederation Club Licencing requirements, the ability to register and field a competitive team, and crucially, being able to ensure that all operations, associated and salary costs can be covered for the duration of an entire season,” said FAS.

In December last year, FAS said it was searching for a 10th club to take part in the SPL. The aim is to "raise the level" of professional football in Singapore by attracting top football talent and garnering significant fan engagement, it said.
