SINGAPORE: Singapore reported a record 2,236 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Tuesday (Sep 28) .
The new infections include 2,226 local cases, comprising 1,711 in the community and 515 among dormitory residents.
There were also 10 imported cases, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) in a media update issued at about 11.50pm.
Five more fatalities were also reported.
Of these, four were Singaporean men aged 74, 73, 69 and 79 while one was a 77-year-old Singaporean woman.
Among them, MOH said two had been unvaccinated against COVID-19. One had been partially vaccinated and the remaining two had been vaccinated.
All of them had various underlying medical conditions, said MOH.
The Health Ministry did not provide information on what their underlying medical conditions were.
As of Tuesday, Singapore has reported a total of 91,775 COVID-19 cases and 85 deaths.
There have been 30 deaths in September so far, a new monthly record.
There were 1,325 COVID-19 cases warded in hospital, most of them well and under observation, said MOH.
Of these, 209 cases of serious illness required oxygen supplementation and 30 were in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU). Among those who fell very ill were 201 seniors aged above 60.
New, tighter community restrictions kicked in on Monday amid the ongoing wave of COVID-19 infections in Singapore.
The cap on social gatherings has been reduced to two people, while the group size limit on dining-in at regular F&B outlets has been restricted to two vaccinated people.
Working from home has been implemented as the default for employees who are able to do so.
These restrictions will last until Oct 24, with a review at the two-week mark.
Students from Primary 1 to 5 will also undergo home-based learning until Oct 7, while Primary 6 students are on a study break until Sep 29.
