SINGAPORE: SingPost on Friday (Jan 7) launched a set of stamps to welcome the Year of the Tiger.

The two stamps – in denominations of S$0.30 (first local) and S$1.40 – were illustrated by Ms Lim An-Ling, the designer behind the 2019 Singapore Bicentennial stamp sets.

The new stamps are part of a 12-year series that started in 2020 with the Year of the Rat. The tiger is the third animal in the Chinese Zodiac.

The Year of the Tiger begins on Feb 1, the first day of Chinese New Year.

“According to popular belief, people born in the Year of the Tiger are known to be brave, competitive, confident yet unpredictable. While mostly charming and well-liked by others, they are known to be sometimes impetuous, irritable, and over-indulgent,” said SingPost in a media release.

Famous personalities born in the year of the Tiger include Queen Elizabeth II, entertainer Lady Gaga, singer Shawn Mendes, Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as Singapore TV personalities Desmond Tan and Rebecca Lim.

A pre-cancelled First Day Cover affixed with the stamps and a special zodiac tiger postmark will be sold at S$3.10, while a presentation pack with both stamps is priced at S$4.15.

SingPost said it will also produce a special collector’s sheet with a commemorative S$10 stamp. Priced at S$18.80, the collector’s sheet will be sold in a folder along with a set of eight red packets.

For postage labels bought at SAM kiosks at the General Post Office and Suntec Post Office, they will feature a tiger-themed design for a limited time from Jan 7.
