Sushiro and PS.Cafe collaborate on exclusive truffle fries-inspired sushi menu

Sushiro and PS.Cafe are as different as, well, DC and Marvel films. But even brands with pretty much nothing in common can team up – Avengers-style – for a foodie collaboration.

For the first time, the popular homegrown cafe chain and the conveyor belt sushi specialist have partnered to launch a limited-time sushi menu, which is available from now to Apr 20.

So, how did this seemingly random crossover come about? Sushiro’s PR rep told 8days.sg that the two brands’ management teams simply “met through a mutual contact, and it led to the discussion and exploration of a collaboration opportunity”.

Given that Sushiro is known for sushi and PS.Cafe, arguably its truffle fries, which is one of its longtime bestsellers, the collaboration manifested as a new-to-market truffle sushi menu.

This includes three truffle-flavoured sushi items and one truffle chawanmushi: Salmon with PS.Cafe Truffle Mayo (S$3.90), Shrimp with PS.Cafe Truffle Mayo (S$3.90), Aburi Scallop with PS.Cafe Truffle Sauce (S$4.90) and PS.Cafe Truffle Chawanmushi (S$4.90).

Fun fact: It’s also currently black truffle season, which usually runs from November to March and peaks in January and February.

USING PS.CAFE'S HOUSE BRAND TRUFFLE OIL

The truffle flavouring for the sushi comes from PS.Cafe’s in-house truffle oil brand Tartufo Bianco (Italian for ‘white truffle’), which is made with white truffles from Alba, an Italian town that is famous for producing some of the world’s best and most expensive truffles.

The truffle oil is mixed with mayo to create an aioli-style sauce that’s added to the shrimp and salmon sushi, and mixed with truffle paste for the chawanmushi and aburi scallop sushi.

As for whether there will be a Sushiro-inspired menu at PS.Cafe (like truffle fries-topped sushi, we guess?), Sushiro’s PR rep tells us there are no plans for a launch for now.

Sushiro x PS.Cafe’s collaboration menu is available from now till Apr 20. For the full list of Sushiro outlets, click here. More info via Instagram and Facebook.
