"Winds started whipping up without warning,” one Bishan resident told CNA.

“A lot of crashing as shelves and anything unsecured were tossed around and blown over. People actually hunkered down in shops for a few minutes because on the corridors it was way too windy and dangerous."

One photo shows broken glass along the road outside UOB Plaza 2 at Raffles Place.

“We are aware of an incident outside UOB Plaza 2 involving a damaged glass canopy,” said UOB in a Facebook post.

“The glass panel that caused the damage was not from the Bank's building. There was no reported injury and the affected area has been cordoned off for the public's safety.”

The Meteorological Service Singapore on Monday warned that monsoon conditions are forecast to persist over Singapore and the surrounding region over the next two weeks, with low-level winds blowing from the south or west on most days.

“Sumatra squalls may bring widespread thundery showers and gusty winds during the pre-dawn hours and morning on a few days,” said the agency.

“More rainfall is forecast in the latter half of the fortnight, with thundery showers expected on most afternoons. The thundery showers could be widespread and heavy on some of these days.”
