SINGAPORE: An 18-year-old was among 119 suspected drug offenders arrested during a recent islandwide operation, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said on Monday (Mar 4).

Drugs with an estimated street value of S$343,000 (US$255,100) were also seized during the Feb 19 to Feb 29 raids which covered areas such as Clementi, Geylang, Punggol, Sembawang, Tampines and Woodlands.

The contraband seized comprised about 1,900g of heroin, 390g of Ice, 453g of cannabis, 8g of ketamine, 2g of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS), 82 Ecstasy tablets, two Erimin-5 tablets, nine lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) stamps and 1g of cocaine.

19-YEAR-OLD CHARGES AT CNB OFFICER

CNB officers visited the residence of a 19-year-old suspected drug abuser in the Clementi Avenue 4 area on Feb 19.

As they were searching the master bedroom, the Singaporean youth, who had been hiding behind the curtains, charged towards a female officer with a knife.

The bureau said its officers disarmed the assailant, subdued him and placed him under arrest.

"He was referred to (the) police for further investigation for criminal intimidation while CNB continues investigations into his drug offences."

A 21-year-old Singaporean man, later found to be a friend of the 19-year-old, was arrested for suspected drug abuse within the unit.

In another raid in Clementi on Feb 21, four Singaporean men aged between 58 and 69 were arrested for suspected drug trafficking offences.

An officer who was observing the residential unit near Clementi Avenue 2 noticed items being thrown out of the bedroom window before the arrest. Photos provided by CNB show black packages on the grass and walkway.

A total of about 1,788g of heroin, 19g of Ice and various drug paraphernalia within the unit and strewn at the foot of the residential block were later recovered and confiscated.

ARREST MADE AT EDGEFIELD PLAINS VOID DECK

A 23-year-old Singaporean man and an 18-year-old Singaporean girl were arrested on Feb 22 at the void deck of a Housing Board block in the Edgefield Plains area of Punggol.

The pair are suspected of drug trafficking offences via Telegram.

About 11g of Ice were recovered from the man’s belongings.

A search was conducted in the man’s residence located in the same block, where about 60g of Ice and 27 Ecstasy tablets were seized, said CNB. A baton and a knuckle duster were found in the man’s car.

Officers also seized about 3g of Ice from the girl’s residence located in the Aljunied Crescent area.

Under the Misuse of Drugs Act, it is an offence for a person to traffic, or offer to traffic in, a controlled drug.

Those found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of diamorphine or “pure heroin” may face the mandatory death penalty.

Investigations into all arrested suspects are ongoing, said CNB.
