SINGAPORE: A van driver was taken to hospital after a crane at a PUB worksite in Sengkang toppled and crushed his vehicle on Tuesday (Apr 9).
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the accident at the junction of Punggol Road and Compassvale Street at about 4.55pm.
According to the police, the crane toppled onto the stationary van beside it while the operator was loading the crane onto a trailer truck.
The crane was operating at a PUB worksite where a new public sewer is under construction, the national water agency said in response to CNA's query.
The 28-year-old van driver was injured in the incident and he was taken conscious to Sengkang General Hospital.
The crane operator, 49, was arrested, the police said, adding that investigations are ongoing.
PUB and its contractor Building Construction will assist the police and the Manpower Ministry with their investigations into the incident, the agency told CNA.

A CNA reader said that the road from Punggol Road to Compassvale Street was blocked at about 5.30pm.
When CNA visited the scene of the accident at around 7.50pm, the crane was still lying on its side, with its red boom on the crushed van.
Police vehicles blocked off the accident area, leaving a single passage for peak hour traffic. Officers were seen managing the traffic in the area.
