SINGAPORE: Eight people were taken to hospital on Monday (Apr 22) after an accident involving several vehicles in Tampines.

Footage of the aftermath of the accident circulating on social media shows at least six damaged vehicles at a busy junction with debris strewn between them. One of the vehicles is upside down.

In response to queries from CNA, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the accident at the junction of Tampines Avenue 1 and Tampines Avenue 4 at about 7.07am on Monday.

"Upon SCDF's arrival, a person was lying on the road with one leg trapped under the wheel of a car," they said, adding that hydraulic rescue equipment was used to free the person's leg.

Of the eight people taken to hospital, four were sent to Changi General Hospital, two to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and two to KK Women's and Children's Hospital, SCDF said.

"A few members of the public, including a nurse and two off-duty SCDF officers, had rendered assistance to the injured persons following the accident," SCDF added.

"SCDF will be reaching out to commend them for their public spiritedness."

In footage of the lead-up to the accident posted on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page, a black car is seen speeding up and sideswiping a white car before a junction.

A few seconds later, multiple vehicles are seen damaged at the junction, including two vans. In the footage, a black car is seen upturned.

In footage of the accident's aftermath posted by an Instagram user, paramedics are seen performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a person near a zebra crossing.

When CNA visited the scene of the accident at about 11am, some of the damaged vehicles were still on the road, although the overturned car had been removed.
