SINGAPORE: A police officer allegedly drove while intoxicated, collided with a motorcyclist and fled the scene.
Tan Bee Sen Bernard, a 52-year-old Singaporean, was handed five charges under the Road Traffic Act on Thursday (Sep 12).
These include having more than double the limit of alcohol in his breath, driving without due care and attention and causing grievous hurt and failing to stop after the accident.
According to charge sheets, Tan had at least 78 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of his breath at 11.58pm on Aug 18 last year.
He was driving along Bartley Road East when he allegedly veered towards the left, striking a concrete wall before veering right into a motorcycle.
The 28-year-old female motorcyclist was grievously injured, as a result.
After the accident, Tan allegedly failed to stop and provide his particulars. Instead, he is accused of "removing" his car "without the authority of a police officer", when it had been involved in a road traffic accident.
He was offered bail of S$15,000 (US$11,500) and will return to court in October.
If convicted of drink driving, he can be jailed for up to a year, fined between S$2,000 and s$10,000, or both.
He faces the same penalties for driving without due care and attention resulting in grievous hurt, and he can also be banned from driving.
