SINGAPORE: Several residents were injured by a wild boar in Yishun on Wednesday evening (Mar 9).

A wild boar ran into a pedestrian at a plaza near Block 844 Yishun Street 81, said Member of Parliament Carrie Tan (PAP-Nee Soon), who serves the Nee Soon South ward where it occurred.

"This is shocking as the plaza is usually crowded and wild boars tend not to venture into such populated areas," Ms Tan said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Responding to media queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for assistance at Blk 846 Yishun Ring Road at about 6.50pm on Wednesday.

One person was sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, SCDF said.

The Nee Soon Town Council "immediately rallied" staff to locate the wild boar, said Ms Tan.

Minister of State for National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim noted in a separate Facebook post that the animal subsequently headed towards Yishun Park and hurt some residents before entering the park.

Associate Professor Faishal, , who is also an MP for Nee Soon GRC, added he was working closely with the People's Association and grassroots volunteers to reach out to the injured residents.

National Parks Board (NParks) officers are currently searching for the wild boar in Yishun Park, which has been closed off, said Ms Tan.

"We have asked our Town Council Estate Ambassadors and conservancy cleaning staff to be on the lookout at the adjacent blocks," she added.

"I wish the injured a speedy recovery and will be visiting the Khatib shop owners once I test negative and am released from isolation and finish my Parliamentary duties, said Ms Tan, who recently tested positive for COVID-19.

Ms Tan reminded those who encounter wild boars to take precautions such as avoiding feeding the animals, as well as keeping a safe distance and not provoking them.

CNA has contacted NParks for more information.
