SINGAPORE: Singapore kayaker Stephenie Chen is through to the semi-finals of the women's K1 500m after two races on Wednesday (Aug 7).

Earlier in the day, she finished fifth in her heat with a time of 1m 58.52s. The fastest two of each heat automatically qualified for the semi-finals, while the third to seventh fastest in each heat went through to the quarters.

In the next round, 32-year-old Chen clocked a timing of 1m 53.88s, finishing fifth out of eight kayakers in her quarter-final.

The top five of each of the four quarter-finals moved on to the semi-finals on Saturday.

Chen punched her ticket for the Paris Olympics after finishing third in the women’s K1 500m final at the ACC Canoe Sprint & Paracanoe Asian Championships.

She is a five-time SEA Games champion and won silver at the 2022 Asian Games.
