SINGAPORE: Edge restaurant at Pan Pacific Hotel was allowed to resume operations on Thursday (Jun 27) after a month of suspension due to reports of gastroenteritis.
The suspension, which started on May 24, was lifted after the restaurant complied with food safety requirements, said the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and Ministry of Health (MOH).
Authorities said that they received reports of gastroenteritis involving 39 people who had consumed food prepared by the restaurant between May 1 and May 23, according to revised figures provided on Thursday.
One person was also hospitalised and has since been discharged, MOH and SFA said in the joint media release on Thursday.
It was earlier reported that 16 diners fell ill after consuming food there between May 2 and May 18.
During the suspension period, the restaurant disposed of all ready-to-eat food, thawed food and perishable food items, said MOH and SFA.
It also cleaned and sanitised the premises, including equipment and utensils, and disinfected food preparation surfaces, tables and floors.
Food handlers re-attended and passed the Food Safety Course Level 1, and the Food Hygiene Officers also re-attended and passed the WSQ Conduct Food & Beverage Hygiene Audit course.
SFA will continue to place Edge restaurant "under close surveillance to ensure that they adhere to food safety requirements".
The authority is also considering the findings from investigations into the outbreak of gastroenteritis and said it "will not hesitate to take enforcement action" if food operators are found to be in violation of environmental public health regulations.
Those convicted of that may face a fine not exceeding S$2,000 (US$1,474). For a continuing offence, an additional fine of up to S$100 per day may apply after conviction.
